The Role of BHRT in Combating Bone Loss in Menopausal Women

By: Alex Chervinsky

In a woman, the ovaries secrete estrogen and progesterone on a cyclical basis. At menopause, the ovaries stop making estrogen and the abrupt fall in estrogen level in the body is primarily responsible for the symptoms associated with menopause. To counter the effects of these symptoms, Bio identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is recommended by general practitioners to maintain the level of hormones in the body. In this form of therapy the drug molecules are bio compatible as they tend to recreate the same kind of effect as the natural hormones that are secreted by the body.

During menopause, the women generally lose the protective effect of the hormone estrogen in the body. Low estrogen levels can lead to the degeneration of the bones and lead to conditions like osteoporosis and some other associated complications in the skeletal system. BHRT replaces estrogen lost after menopause and reduces bone loss at any age thereafter. A synthetic hormone intake promotes the action of the bone building cells in the body.

There are a number of alternatives to conventional hormone replacement therapy. For example, BHRT produces the same effect that estrogen has in the body. These are a mixture of medicines compounded and the dosage is adjusted to suit each person’s needs. Since there is no risk like the ones while taking conventional therapy, BHRT is promoted to improve the symptoms of menopause. Many medicines are available over the counter, but medicines made by the compounding pharmacy; you can simplify the administration of medicines by finding an alternate route of medicine administration.

Compounding pharmacy compounds the medication with the right strength to provide the therapeutic benefits under a Bio identical hormone replacement therapy regimen and has less or no side effects. Suppose a patient finds it difficult to swallow medicines, the particle size can be favorable manipulated or a soluble medicine concoction can be administered. You can even form a suspension or solution of the medicine that helps the patient to complete the course of medication without any problems.

The Food and Drug Administration have approved a variety of bio identical hormones to treat the symptoms of menopause. These hormones have many uses. Treatment with these hormones is a natural alternative with fewer risks than conventional hormone replacement therapy. BHRT compounding helps people to maintain the levels of hormones in the body and to control the symptoms of menopause. This will help the patients to live comfortably without any health concerns.

A compounding pharmacy combines medicines that have estrogen like effects that act on the tissues of the body without many of the unwanted side effects. Thus we find that BHRT compounding is slowly gaining in popularity for the treatment of the symptoms of menopause. This therapy is easy to be administered and a combination of medicines is effectively used while forming a single dosage of the medicine. The compounding pharmacy thus does a good job by combining different medicines to suit individual needs. This form of medication is therefore found to be more effective than other forms of hormone replacement therapy.
