Roller Blinds are a great alternative to traditional curtains. They are more commonly found in office buildings and other commercial settings, but have gained popularity in residential settings during the last decade. This surge in popularity is a result of many factors, including the greater extent to which roller blinds protect homes from sunlight (and the damage sunlight can do to furniture), protection from UV rays, reduction of glare, and greater control over providing privacy for the interior of your home. The one main drawback of roller blinds is the initial hassle of setting them up. However, they are not as difficult to install as one might think. In fact, the process of roller blind installation is much more straightforward than that of installing drapes. If you read the directions thoroughly and do a careful job of installing the roller blinds, you should have no trouble finishing the job quickly. The tools needed for roller blind installation include the following: the blind, plastic inserts that came with the blind, screws, wall fixings, a drill, masonry bit, other screw bits, a screw driver, pencil, carpenter's level and any instructions or diagrams that come with the roller blind. You will also want to take careful measurements of the window before purchasing the roller blinds. Be sure to take these measurements with you when you go shopping for the window blind. Next, determine how you want to install the blinds. You can use top fixings (installed above the window) or side fixings (installed to the side, but near the top of the window). Be sure to mark off at least 50 centimeters from any plaster or brick work. Use your pencil to mark the position for your screws. Now, use your carpenter’s level to double check that all the measurements and placements are correct. Using the markings you've just made, drill pilot holes with your screwdriver. Once you've drilled the holes in the appropriate places, screw the brackets into the wall. Check once more with your carpenter’s level to make sure that the holes are level. Now you are ready to install the roller blinds. To fit the blinds, place the plastic inserts that came with your blinds into the brackets. Now place the end of the blinds into the plastic insert on one side. On the other end, place the pin inside the bracket into the roller end of the blind. Your roller blinds are ready for use!
